Guest Post: Arcadian Lighting: Wall Art in the Bedroom

Hi All! Today I have a fantastic guest post from Joanna at Arcadian Lighting (an amazing lighting resource if you're not familiar- you should check it out!). Today's tackle? Bedroom artwork! Having the right art and the right placement in the bedroom can make or break the look. Thanks, Joanna for this great contribution!

Hi! Joanna here. I’m a guest blogger for Arcadian Lighting, a definitive source for lighting fixtures in every style and finish you can imagine. I’m happy to be posting on Homestyling101. Thanks, Joanne for letting me share with your readers. Today, I’ve brought along some images and ideas for wall art in the bedroom. Which room is your favorite?

Bedroom Wall Decor

There’s nothing like a gallery wall to add interest to a space. This one features colorful artwork which makes the tiny bit of color in the room pop.

Blue and Silver Wall Decal Art

Lately, wall decals have become more and more popular. They’re easy to apply and add a fun flair to most any space. This one boasts a pretty floral design in silver.

Floral Wall Decor

This pretty bedroom takes the gallery wall idea a step further using all-white framed pieces, a coral mirror and a simple vase with a single flower to add interest in a subtle way. Low-key light fixtures add a soft glow to the room.

Alphabet and Animal Wall Decal Art

Wall art in children’s rooms is always fun and this design is no different. It features the alphabet with animals mingled around the letters. I love the soft, cool hues in this space.

Bed Headboard Wall Decal Art

No headboard? No problem. This wall decal gives the instant illusion of one without the price tag. This design is quite lovely and works well with the low profile bed pictured.

Map Wall Decor

A sepia-toned vintage map of Paris adds interest and depth behind an ornate headboard.

Clock Wall Decal Art

Not every room could handle the stunning display of an enormous painted clock but this one does. The bed seems to float with all of its draped fabric adding another touch of whimsy to the space. The oversize lamps and pendant light fit the room well, where smaller ones would be lost.

Bird Wall Decor Art

Fashion prints are a good choice for the bedroom, these feature various birds on display for a fun appeal. With earthy neutrals in the rest of the room, the colors in the art really pop. May these interior designs inspire you to get in touch with your artistic side. Illuminate your artistic decor in your home with a wall sconce or light fixture from Arcadian Lighting.

OlioHop: Mom Spot! Link up with us!

I love my kids through and through. My kids are vivacious, funny, full of energy and talkative....VERY TALKATIVE. I can't say I am surprised...I can be quite chatty as can my husband so apple...tree...you get the idea. Anyway, while I love to hang on their every word and philosophy about swimming, SpongeBob and Super Mario, at the end of a busy week...sometimes I revel in the delight of sneaking off to my very own nook once the kiddies have been put to bed. Right now my very personal nook is sitting propped up in my bed with the fan on and the door closed...but if I had the chance to create my very own Mom-spot, here is what it would look like:

To view the board closer or to source items from the board, visit me at Olioboard!

What is most important to me in my nook is:
  • a quiet and comfortable place to read iPad, the obnoxious pile of magazines I have and of course, books!
  • a nice clean surface to work on the laptop or sort through fabric and rug samples
  • plenty of closed storage in the dressers
  • some inspirational artwork- (I have a bit of an obsession with chairs....hence my logo)
  • some natural light and some necessary mood lighting with several lamps
  • some pretty orchids...just because!
Hop on over to Olioboard to create your very own Mom-Spot and come back and share the link. I'd love to see what each of you interpret as a place of your own. If you are looking for some inspiration, check out the Mom-spots created by these lovely and talented bloggers.

OlioHop on Monday- Mom-Spaces

This is going to be a busy weekend! Not only is my little girl turning eight (which makes me feel old just saying it!) but we plan on having some family over to celebrate. I am also preparing a few guest posts on other blogs I adore and I am prepping for the next OlioHop set to launch on Monday, July 30th at 9 am!

Homestyling101 Wayfair Contest

For those of you who missed it, on OlioHop is a blog hop in which we share our Olioboards (Olioboard is a very cool, free, mood board website...did I mention free?) So here is the challenge this month. Head over to Olioboard. Join if you haven't already. Then get to creating! This month's OlioHop is about a Mom-space- a nook, a room, a corner devoted entirely to a Mom.

Homestyling101 Organizational BlogHop

Once you've created your Mom-space, come back here on Monday and link it up. There is also a panel of amazing bloggers who will be featuring their boards as well and I can't wait to see what they come up with! Check back here on Monday and I'll share the links to their posts, you share the link to your Olioboard (no blog necessary) and it will be one big share-fest! Happy Olio-ing!

Trend spotting: Spindle Chair

As a self-confessed design junkie, I have my eyes all over the market...constantly....my head in the mags, catalogs, showrooms, blogs- everything design related. Through my obsessive hunting, I have totally fallen for an oldie but a goodie...the spindle chair. It is not a new design style but for some reason, all of a sudden it has my design senses in overdrive digging this chair! I think I am abandoning the wicker chair idea for my living room and going for the spindle!
Here are some inspiration rooms:

Ok, now that I got your juices flowing...here are some options so get that credit card out!

Ahhh, to dream. The Ralph Lauren Spindle Chair running from $3825- $4875 depending on the fabric. Not unless I land a very big gig.......who has a summer home and winter home for me to decorate, too....

The Neiman Marcus Massoud Spindle Chair at $2149 is also out of my budget...especially because I need two.

Sorry for the fuzzy pics....there is also this Old Hickory Tannery Suzani Spindle Chair with suzani fabric for $1726..still too high but gorgeous!

Another fuzzy photo but great chair! There is the Old Hickory Spindle Chair from Horchow for about $1599+ depending on the fabric.  Getting lower in price but....I think I can do better.......and voila!

The Pottery Barn Sabine Spindle Chair is the winner! For $799 and a choice of two fabrics, I think these have made it on my short wish list for the living room. Next step, sell my current stuff on Craigslist!

Monday Morning Book Review: Style Statement

It's Monday Morning Book review! Today's book is actually more like a design workbook. It is Style Statement: Live by Your Own Design. This book is a fun tool to help you determine what your unique style is. Throughout the book, there are various opportunities to dissect your design, life and personal style. It is also full of profiles of interesting people whom the authors (Carrie McCarthy and Danielle LaPorte) have dissected and labeled with names describing their personal styles: "Innovative Feminine", "Current Sensual", "Simply Crafted", "Timeless Constructive"....just to name a few!

To be honest, I got the book a while ago and life took over so I haven't gotten enough quiet time to complete my own design profile. (Did I mention my kids are not in camp?) After reviewing this book, it certainly has inspired me to keep it by my bedside to get to the end to figure out my design nomenclature! I'll be sure to share once I do...and you can share yours, too! Happy reading!

Ottomans and more at Target...

As I stated yesterday, I am on the hunt for an ottoman coffee table. I am already checking out what they are selling over at One Kings Lane but I am also considering a few other lovelies. (Got that one, Webster?) Here is what I found over at my tried, true and trusted retailer....TARGET!

I also adore it in gold...

Seriously, pop a couple of these colorful trays on top and you've got a vibrant and functional ottoman!

I also found this super cool bamboo and teal tray over at Target!

While I was shopping around, I also came across this cute little number that would look so cool in a den!

How amazing is this rope pouf from Target? Plus at $79.99 you can't beat the price. It also comes in some other popping colors! Ok, Target, you are killing it in both design and price...now I'm doing some damage for some clients!

I am addicted to One Kings Lane

I know I might be a little late to the game here but I just have to share how much I am loving One Kings Lane. For those of you who are not familiar, One Kings Lane is a website that features steeply discounted designer goods for a limited period of time and at a limited quantity. Join here for free! (Actually, I think they give you $15 credit for joining!)
Join One Kings Lane to be updated on the sales!

Currently they are featuring a sale on Stanley Furniture (amazing quality furniture in various styles- one of my favorite vendors) but the sale ends in about 2 days so get shopping!

They are also featuring a new product launch by Florabella Home- they have GORGEOUS pillows! That sales ends in about 2 days also!

They are also previewing a sale that starts on Friday, July 19th for Stark Rugs. I already added it to my calendar because these rugs look amazing!

My favorite part is that you can preview their calendar of future sales! If you are in the market for something you can see if there is anything to fit the bill in their future sales. I am in the market for an ottoman and a sale with Ottoman Empire starts tonight! I can tell this is going to be addicting......

Go over to One Kings Lane and join- it's free (actually it looks like they give you $15 credit for joining!) and then you can keep up to date on their amazing sales!

Great wicker chair find!

Remember the post I did last week on using wicker chairs for indoor design? If you missed it, you can read all the deets here.
Well, I just spotted the best chairs ever over at Copy Cat Chic. If you are not familiar with Copy Cat Chic, the author, Reichel, features high end products and low end knock-offs. If you shopped her blog, you could furnish your entire home to get a high end look for a low end budget! I am a huge fan and Copy Cat Chic was one of the first blogs I started reading! Here is what Reichel found for the wicker chair option and I am salivating to get me one (or two!)

The Crate and Barrel Summerlin Chair for $339. I don't think the chair is currently available...but that's ok because you can get this one:

I can definitely see this in my living room with some amazing upholstered pillow cushions...maybe in something like this:

Calico Corners Magnificat Classic  here
We'll see if I can pull the trigger! Happy shopping!
