Bedroom Beauties: Great Headboards

In my opinion, the most important statement piece in the bedroom is the headboard. Regardless of what else is going on in the room (fireplace, sliding doors, great windows, stunning architecture) I find the headboard (and bed) should always be the show-stopper in the room. Whatever your flavor: iron headboard, upholstered headboard, wooden headboard: just think of it as the jewel of the room! Ok,I'll get off my headboard soapbox and show you some pics and share a great HGTV contest to win.....you guessed it, a headboard!
Seriously, people....can you not just die?

Furniture Outlet Shopping...it doesn't get any better than ABC!

I was in the Bronx yesterday, finalizing tile selections with a client. When we finished up earlier than expected, my car suspiciously took a wrong turn or two and landed me right in front of the outlet to beat all others....ABC Carpet and Home the OUTLET!!

amazing ABC
For those of you not familiar, ABC Carpet and Home is a home junkie's haven in NYC...it has the most glorious rugs, furniture, accessories, linens, etc. You could just die....unless of course you go to the outlets....then you absolutely will die. There are three outlets (one other in NJ and FL) and I ended up at the one in the Bronx. I was absolutely astonished at the size of it and the amount of furniture and rug options they had. I took a few shots (two actually) before my camera died on me...I guess this store has that kind of effect on my camera, too!

Good news....apparently you can shop ABC online (how did I never know that??) I guess I thought the goods were too special to be retailed online...but here you go!
check it out here..

The selection is undoubtedly better in the stores but for those of you out of the area...it is worth a look! They have vintage pieces, antique pieces, picks of the weeks, one of a kind....it is pretty cool. MAKE SURE you visit the SHOP HOME link....that brings you to all the jewels of the store.

Your life will never be the same. Your welcome.

Peeping Tom Tuesday: Tori Spelling's Nursery for Baby #3

I am a Tori Spelling fan and while I was a big 90210 fan back in the day, Donna was not my favorite character. But Tori in real life......I am a fan. I do tune in weekly to watch the Tori and Dean show. I think Tori is surprisingly down-to-earth especially given her lavish upbringing. She seems sweet and funny and I am constantly amazed by how creative she is...whipping ideas out faster then babies! And speaking of babies, Tori and Dean just welcomed their third baby, a little girl Hattie Margaret.

Another tidbit about Tori is that she is a decorating junkie...she loves to flea market and antique (and hoard!) She even opened a store in Sherman Oaks,InvenTORI,to try to sell her fantastic finds and collectibles after her husband became frustrated with her multiple storage units! ( a girl after my own heart...I never met a piece of furniture I couldn't fit into storage!!)

So, of course, I was just dying to check out the nursery she whipped together (most likely coordinated while in labor!) for her third baby and second daughter, Hattie Margaret. Check out the video below for Tori's tour. I still remember the room she did for her son Liam with dark blue doors and trim. I admire her fearlessness in treating molding and doors as opportunities to pop the color! Enjoy!

Creative Tile Layouts

So I have been working with a client for a while now to pull together her home which is in the process of being built. We have been working on the kitchen and baths....for a while. Like every other client, we are trying to be respectful of a budget. In an effort to make these bathrooms look fab while using less expensive porcelain tile, I am trying to introduce some creative tile patterns to add a bit of interest. Here are some inspiration photos:

Loving the scale difference here...continuing the floor tile up heightens ceiling..it seems like a glowing tunnel...our shower in question does not have three walls...we have two walls and two glass walls....loving anyway!

If you find a great tile in two color-ways...why not stripe it? Unique but not complicated to execute...score!

I love defining the space with tile pattern...very clean looking....classic black white and gray...love!

Ok, I am not a lover of this bathroom overall...but I LOVE the way they utilize the large tile horizontally in the shower and in a chevron pattern for the tub surround and floor...this looks like a 12" x 24" tile the client actually selected...we might be on to something!

Now that I have some inspiration photos, I am off to meet the client at the tile store this week to see if we can't agree on something!

Project 2012: Painted Piano

One of the projects I would really love to complete this year would be to re-finish this piano.

It isn't overly expensive or particularly beautiful...but it is sentimental. It was my Mom's piano, it was the piano I played as a child and since I lost my Mom as a child, I am eager to keep this hand-me-down and restore its beauty. One little problem...I am a chicken! I am petrified that if I try to beautify it, I will destroy it! So, I am putting it out there in January that I would like to restore this piano by year's end. Ok, now I have eleven months to get the courage, unclench my knuckles and start painting.....here are some inspirations....

a bit of color......

a wee bit more color...

a little more of a punch of color....

holy red, batman!

shut up with the chevron!

or should I go a bit more chill.....btw loving the garden stool bench...our bench broke years ago!

and this is just serenity now!

Ok, I have worked myself into a panic at the thought of doing this! Give me a nudge...pick your favorite!!

Golden Globes Fashion translated at home...

Being the interior design junkie that I am, I can't help but watch the Golden Globes and envision the fashion transformed into rooms....

Like if Jessica Alba's dress was a room:
Jessica Alba in gorgeous Lilac

It would look a little like this...girly, feminine, a bit of a lilac/pinkish hue with touches of gold...

If Madonna's dress was a room:

It would be a bit of black and a touch of gray with a bit of sparkle and just a touch of curves...

And if Angelina Jolie's dress was a room....

Some feminine lines, some contrasting hard edges and severe color contrast...just missing Brad Pitt :(

Am I the only nut who does this while watching an awards show? Who was your best-dressed of the night?

Peeping Tom Tuesday: George Clooney in Italy!

This week's Peeping Tom Tuesday is inspired by the Golden Globes which aired this Sunday....I DVR'd the Golden Globes and watched it in fast forward (which, by the way, is the recommended way to watch awards shows!) Needless to say, the people were beautiful, the speeches were boring and George Clooney was charming....it was kind of what you would expect from an awards show.

George Clooney
So, this week's peeping Tom Tuesday is George Clooney who just seems to be one of those annoyingly perfect people who is just great at everything he does....and during his acceptance speech for Best Actor, I started to day-dream about running off to his quaint little abode in Italy.....did I mention that I was there? Yes, I was....on a little boat on the lake where a tour guide pointed and said...."that is George Clooney's home" but I was there nonetheless! Anyway here are some shots...

That's me on the boat! Just kidding! All pics via CBS
Gorgeous, right? I was hard pressed to find an interior shot of the home....these damn celebrities and their privacy...I mean, really!

My first post from my Ipad2! Plus Pet of the Year and pillows...

So this is my first attempt to create a blog post from my brand new Ipad2 (thank you to my darling hubby!). I have to say I am usually a little late to the technological party....I still use my 8" x 11" hardcover calendar to keep my appointments, a business card filing book for my contacts and in my kitchen you will even find a phone with a cord...I know, people....so Fred Flintstone! Anyway, I am still addicted to getting' my magazines in the mail but I am loving the ease of flipping through emails and shopping for clients on my shiny new IPad. Needless to say, I am an IPad believer. So now, I pose the question, what are some of your favorite IPad apps? I did a previous post on great decorating iPhone apps but I know there are a plethora of new apps available to me with the IPad and I don't know where to begin!

On another note, I am finishing up a client room that has a beautiful brown sectional with an accent color of orange and a secondary accent color of gold....and yes, orange (or more specifically Tangerine Tango) is the Pantone color of the year for 2012....since I started this room in the fall of 2011, I'll just deem myself psychic I guess! So here are a few of my favorite pillows for this project from some artisans over at Etsy:

On even another note: Please vote for my beautiful little puppy for the Pet of the Year Contest via Westchester Magazine. You don't need to live in Westchester to vote- you just need an email address! Click here and give our Fergie five stars....she is our royalty, Fergie, the Duchess of Yorktown and we adore her! Thanks for the support!

Peeping Tom Tuesday: Kirstie Alley's Maine retreat

Today's Peeping Tom Tuesday is of a Maine retreat of Kirstie Alley....former Dancing with the Stars Contestant, Cheers lady, wore a bathing suit on Oprah...you know who she is!

This feminine and joyful home is currently on the market! It looks like a Grandma-inspired cottage and a truly fluffed-out bed and breakfast. For just less than $2 million you can live like a star!

I have a soft spot for the quaintness of Maine and that side of me just swoons over the charm of this home....however, the stager in me wants to tone down the patterns and highlight the pops of color....oh, what to do?

Loving this brightly tiled bathroom! I could chill there...
