Right now I am loving the look of wicker (or outdoor) chairs used in interiors. I am currently shopping for light-weight, high-backed chairs just like this for a client. I think that these chairs, when used in a living room or den, offer an interesting bit of texture, extra seating and don't take up too much visual space.
In the client space I am looking to use them in, you would enter the room facing the backs of these wicker chairs. I like the idea that the lightness of this style of chair makes this layout possible. Here are some examples of wicker or outdoor chairs done well in the interior:

I love wicker chairs and use them frequently for staging. You are so right about them taking up less visual space. I also love that you can change out the cushions easily. Plus, they are so lightweight they can be moved anywhere in the room. I would love to see your AFTER pictures!

I myself like light-weight chairs of outdoor uses. Often metal chairs are very good for that. However, metal chairs are not that much lovely like wood chairs but they are useful & long lasting.
